ECO 471 - Public Finance and Fiscal Policy This course examines the effects of government spending and taxation. The course explores the various ways that markets fall to achieve socially optimal outcomes, which justifies government provision of some products such as education, pension (i.e., Social Security), medical insurance (Medicaid and Medicare), public assistance, and so forth. The course also studies the effects of various taxes needed to finance these and other types of government spending.
