CIE 110 - Materials The structure, properties, and testing of engineering materials and their use in constructed facilities. Analytical tools used to quantify material properties are covered along with appropriate statistical tools for quantifying uncertainty. Basic microstructure-property relationships are established, as are the fundamental mechanisms for strength and toughness. The production and properties of concrete, steel, wood and polymer composites are covered along with relative advantages and disadvantages of each as a construction material. The bases for material selection are established using both technical and non-technical consideration. (0.0 ED/3.0 ES)
