Mission statement: College Success Programs at the University of Maine help students achieve academic success, attain their educational goals, and engage in life long learning.  To learn more about College Success Programs visit our website.

TRIO-Student Support Services (TRIO SSS)

TRIO Student Support Services is funded through a U. S. Department of Education grant. Its goal is to increase the retention and graduation rates of low income students, first generation students, and students with disabilities. TRIO SSS serves 400 students each year. Students indicate their interest in services through an interest form filled out online or by visiting our main office in 130 Alumni Hall. Students are then invited to meet with a TRIO staff member to learn more about the program and to complete an application for services. Students are notified of their selection; once selected, services are available throughout that student’s college career at UMaine. Services include academic advising, tutoring, peer mentoring, counseling, and workshops. Grants may be available to  active first and second year students to reduce unmet need and loans. For further information contact us at (207) 581-2320, TRIO Student Support Services, University of Maine, Orono, ME 04469-5725, or visit our website.

The Office of Student Academic Success

The Office of Student Academic Success (OSAS) is a branch of College Success Programs at the University of Maine and provides academic support services to enhance student achievement.

OSAS offers free peer tutoring through the Knack platform, connecting students with qualified peers who have demonstrated proficiency in their courses. This service is available for 100 to 400-level classes, ensuring broad support across disciplines. Tutors are University of Maine students who have earned a B+ or better in the courses they tutor, and they undergo training to provide effective assistance.

In addition to tutoring, OSAS also offers individualized success coaching tailored to the specific needs of first-year students. This program assists students in creating personalized academic success plans, setting achievable goals, developing strategies to meet those goals, and maintaining accountability. Success coaches collaborate with students’ faculty and academic advisors to provide holistic support, facilitating connections with additional campus resources as needed.
