OVERVIEW OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum number of credits required to graduate: 60

Minimum Cumulative GPA required to graduate: 2.0

Other requirements: A minimum of 15 credit hours must be completed at the University of Maine at Machias.

The curriculum for an AS in Business & Entrepreneurial Studies enables the student to prepare for entry-level positions in a variety of professional areas including accounting, business computer programming and entry-level management positions.

The program of study emphasizes liberal arts as well as professional studies. In addition, the curriculum facilitates transition to UMM’s baccalaureate programs for those students who decide to further their studies or seek higher credentials.

General Requirements

To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 60 credits and achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00.

English/Liberal Arts Requirements - 12 credits

ENG 101 - Composition Credits: 3
Complete one of the following:
ENG 113 - Introduction to Humanities Credits: 3
ENG 114 - Topics in World Literature Credits: 3
ENG 117 - Intro to Literary & Cultural Studies Credits: 3
ENG 118 - Contemporary Literature Credits: 3
Complete 6 credits of Liberal Arts electives from two of the following areas:
- Art
- Creative Writing
- Environmental Liberal Arts (ELA)
- History
- Interdisciplinary Fine Arts (FIA)
- Music
- Scientific Inquiry
- Theatre
- Speech
- Foreign Language

Social Science Requirement - 3 credits

Complete one of the following:
ANT 101 - Cultural Anthropology Credits: 3
PSY 110 - Intro to Psychology Credits: 3
SOC 114 - Intro to Sociology Credits: 3

Math Requirements - 3 credits

Complete both of the following:

MAT 12 Beginning Algebra competency* Credits: 0-3
MAT course at or above the 100-level Credits: 3

* Students can demonstrate competency in MAT 12 by achieving a score of 60 or better on the Accuplacer Elementary Algebra exam and 50 or better on the Accuplacer Arithmetic exam. Students who demonstrate competency in MAT 102 are also considered to have met competency in MAT 12.

Complete 3 credits from accounting (ACC), business (BUS), management (MAN) or marketing (MAR) at or above the 300 level.
Complete 9 additional credits from accounting (ACC), business (BUS), economics (ECO), management (MAN) or marketing (MAR) at any level
