Associate of Science - Business & Entrepreneurial Studies


OVERVIEW OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum number of credits required to graduate: 60

Minimum Cumulative GPA required to graduate: 2.0

Other requirements:  A minimum of 15 credit hours must be completed at the University of Maine at Machias.


The curriculum for an AS in Business & Entrepreneurial Studies enables the student to prepare for entry-level positions in a variety of professional areas including accounting, business computer programming and entry-level management positions.

The program of study emphasizes liberal arts as well as professional studies.  In addition, the curriculum facilitates transition to UMM’s baccalaureate programs for those students who decide to further their studies or seek higher credentials.

General Requirements


To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 60 credits and achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00. 

English/Liberal Arts Requirements - 12 credits


Social Science Requirement - 3 credits


Math Requirements - 3 credits


Complete both of the following:

  • MAT 12     Beginning Algebra competency*  Credits:  0-3
  • MAT course at or above the 100-level  Credits:  3

*   Students can demonstrate competency in MAT 12 by achieving a score of 60 or better on the Accuplacer Elementary Algebra exam and 50 or better on the Accuplacer Arithmetic exam.  Students who demonstrate competency in MAT 102 are also considered to have met competency in MAT 12.

Business Requirements - 24 credits


Business Electives - 12 credits


  • Complete 3 credits from accounting (ACC), business (BUS), management (MAN) or marketing (MAR) at or above the 300 level.
  • Complete 9 additional credits from accounting (ACC), business (BUS), economics (ECO), management (MAN) or marketing (MAR) at any level 

General Electives - 6 credits


  • Electives to bring total to 60 credits
