OVERVIEW OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Cumulative GPA required to graduate: 2.0
Teacher education has a proud tradition in Downeast Maine. UMM graduates become enlightened teachers, drawing on a strong educational foundation in content and knowledge of students and how they learn. Professors here model hands-on learning, and pass on an enthusiasm for knowledge that makes learning and teaching fun.
Students may choose one of two pathways to certification. They may major in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts (with a Visual Arts concentration); English, Creative Writing & Book Arts; Biology or Marine Biology or Psychology & Community Studies* and minor in Secondary Education or they may choose to major in Secondary Education with a concentration in Art, English, Life or Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Social Studies or Special Education.
In addition to the major requirements, students must complete the University Core Requirements and electives to meet 120 credits.
