Associate of Science - Recreation & Tourism Management


OVERVIEW OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum number of credits required to graduate: 60

Minimum Cumulative GPA required to graduate: 2.0


Recreation & Tourism Management emphasizes a study of recreational services integrated with business management.  The general objective of this program is preparation for program leadership positions in the field of leisure services.

The program of study emphasizes environmental liberal arts as well as professional studies.  In addition, the curriculum facilitates transition to UMM’s Environmental Recreation & Tourism Management baccalaureate program for those students who decide to further their studies or seek higher credentials.

General Requirements


To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 60 credits and achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00. 

Communication - 6 credits


Aesthetic Perspectives - 4 credits


Complete 4 credits from at least two of the following areas: 

  • ART
  • DAN
  • MUS
  • THE
  • FIA
  • Creative Writing. 

At least one credit must be in studio or performing arts.

Scientific Inquiry - 4 credits


Math Requirements - 0-3 credits


  • MAT 12 - Beginning Algebra competency*  Credits:  0-3
  • MAT course at or above the 100-level**  Credits:  3

Ways to establish equivalence to MAT 102:

  1. Score at least 530 on the new SAT math exam (MSS) or at least 21 on ACT math exam.
  2. Score 50 or better on CLEP College Mathematics or College Algebra exam taken after 7/1/2001 or 500 or better on same exam taken before that date.
  3. Place beyond Intermediate Algebra on Accuplacer placement exam.

Note:  Credit will not be awarded for choices 1 and 3 above.

  * Achieving equivalence for MAT 102 automatically demonstrates competence in MAT 12 Beginning Algebra.

** This course may be MAT 102 Intermediate Algebra or its equivalent (see above).

Business - 9 credits


Cooperative Education - 3 credits


  • COE 201 - Cooperative Education I  Credits:  3

Wellness & Physical Activity - 3 credits


General Electives - 0-1 credits


  • Complete General elective(s) to bring total degree hours to 60 credits
