ECE 428 - Smart Grid and Enabling Technologies This course will present the foundations of smart grid, the technology that enables smart grids, the current state of the industry, and future trends in smart energy. The course will include an introduction to smart grid architecture, including traditional grids, the fundamentals of electric power, definitions and classifications of smart grids, and the components of smart grid technology, data analytics and AI in smart grids, opportunities and challenges from grid integration of renewable energy sources and a practical discussion of the applications of power electronics in the smart grid. If this course was taken as a topics course in ECE 498, it cannot be repeated for credit.
ECE 528 and ECE 428 cannot both be taken for degree credits.
Prerequisites: ECE 427 or permission.
