CRJ 323 - Social Movements, Protest and Policing


This course examines policing and activism in the United States. Specifically, the course will consider police-protestor interactions in historically important social movements and will investigate contemporary issues, such as police militarization, digital activism and surveillance, and movements for police accountability. Attention will be placed on the complex relationship between civil liberties and public order in democratic society.

 

Credit cannot be earned for both CRJ 323 and SOC 323

Prerequisites: Six credits of SOC and/or CRJ courses or instructor permission.
