MAT 453 - Partial Differential Equations I


A study of the most common linear partial differential equations (transport, wave, heat and Laplace’s equation) in the context of their derivations from basic principles of physics. Techniques include separation of variables, eigenfunction expansions, Fourier series, characteristic curves, and energy estimates.



Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in MAT 228 and either MAT 258 or MAT 259, or permission.
