MAT 108 - Elementary Numerical Mathematics From A Modern Perspective


This course offers fundamental and relevant mathematics for prospective elementary teachers to teach the K-6 non-geometric mathematics aligned with Maine state standards, including numbers and operations in base ten, number theory, fractions, decimals and percents, and arithmetic and algebraic reasoning skills. Mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and the use of appropriate manipulatives and technology are integrated throughout the course. The course models instructional techniques that can be adapted to the elementary school curricula.
