ERL 319 - Methods for Teaching the Science of Foundational Reading and Writing in Preschool to Grade 3


Current methods, materials, and assessment tools in teaching the science of reading and writing to children preschool to grade three, including early literacy development, oral and listening language development, phonemic awareness instruction, explicit phonic instruction, spelling development, guided reading/shared reading, handwriting instruction, the writing processes of young children, and reading and writing reciprocity in literacy development.  *Field experience required as part of the course. 

Notes: This course requires 20 hours of field experience at a regional school. The expectation is that the teacher candidate is in a school placement for 2-2.5 hours for 8 weeks



Prerequisites: Teacher candidacy required or by permission only
