ANT 476 - Archaeology and Heritage in the Maya World


Examines the origins and evolution of Maya civilization in what is today Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, and El Salvador, beginning with early development of Maya culture in the first two millennia BCE through Spanish colonization in the sixteenth century CE. Complex topics related to contemporary Maya people, language, heritage, and the archaeological record are introduced throughout the course.



Prerequisites: ANT 101 or ANT 170 or ANT 207 or Permission
