EDU 327 - Content Area Literacy Methods This course focuses on content area literacy through the exploration and application of strategic teaching methods that will enhance student understanding of content area material. Participants will come to understand that learning is an active, constructive process and will recognize that using a variety of learning strategies and development of critical thinking skills will enhance understanding. Participants will be required to demonstrate knowledge and application of sound reading and writing strategies to be used in the classroom. These strategies will create readiness for learning, and will use reading and writing to promote content understanding. An additional focus is on encouraging extensive, reading, discussion, enjoyment and appreciation of literature. A field placement is required.
Prerequisites: EDU 216; or permission of instructor.
