MSE 200 - Introduction to Museums


An introduction to the history, theory and practice of Museum Studies. Conceptual investigations of museological issues are balanced with practical information. Students engage in hands-on participation in museum practices such as registration procedures and grant applications. Students gain a working theoretical knowledge of museology and vital, marketable museum and gallery skills. This course is the preliminary requirement for all other Museum Studies courses, although students with commensurate museum/gallery experience can wave the course with the instructor’s consent.

Satisfies the General Education Social Contexts and Institutions Requirement.
