BIO 429 - Plant-Insect Interaction Herbivorous insects and their host plants represent a prime example of coevolution - the populations of interacting species acting as selective agents of adaptation for one another. This course will discuss the many ways in which insects exploit woody and herbaceous plants, and how these interactions can benefit or adversely affect plant growth, survival, and competition. In addition, the course reviews the mechanisms involved with plant-insect interactions, including those related to chemical defenses, behaviors, adaptations, and management. BIO 429 and BIO 529 cannot both be taken for credit.
Prerequisites: BIO 200 or BIO 326 or PSE 100 or SFR 100 or permission of instructor
Course Typically Offered: Spring, alternating years
Credits: 3
