SFR 224 - Sustainable Tourism Development


Principles and practices of planning for community tourism.  The course provides a basis for a community service learning project involving natural and cultural attractions.  The project will involve planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting the community tourism development process.  Specific topics include tourism planning models, addressing community readiness for tourism, working with groups, and guiding public dialogue about attitudes towards tourism through written and verbal communications.  The course requires field trips within and outside of the scheduled class periods.

Prerequisites: SFR 150 or Permission
