Prospective students: Please note that this major has been suspended and that no students will be allowed to declare this major until such time as this note is eliminated from the Undergraduate Catalog as the result of action taken by the UMS Board of Trustees. While the major is suspended, the University is still offering courses and a minor program of study in the area, and courses in this field may be important components of interdisciplinary majors. Please contact the department for further information about opportunities in these areas.
General Requirements:
- Demonstration of reading and writing proficiency.
- Demonstration of comprehensive coverage of literature and civilization through successful completion of appropriate course work.
Special Requirements:
- 24 credits beyond the intermediate level.
- CLA 102 Latin Literature in English Translation.
- LAT 247/248 Latin Prose Composition and Stylistics I/II should be taken in the junior year or earlier.
- 18 credits in two or more related disciplines in Liberal Arts and Sciences, including other languages and courses in translation offered by the department.
- If student plans to pursue a general graduate degree in Classical Studies, should take a minimum of 6 credits in ancient Greek and two courses from the CLA sequence.
