OVERVIEW OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum number of credits required to graduate: 120

Minimum Cumulative GPA required to graduate: 2.0

Minimum Grade requirements for courses to count toward major: A “C-“ or better is required in ECO 120, ECO 121, ECO 350 (or ECO 420), and ECO 321.

Other GPA requirements to graduate: Economics (ECO) coursework must be completed with a 2.0 cumulative average.

This program is designed to prepare students for employment in occupations where specific knowledge of financial economics will be useful in entry-level positions and in enhancing subsequent opportunities for advancement. The program also provides a strong undergraduate background for graduate professional degrees in business, economics, and law. This approach incorporates the fundamentals of economic theory in the areas of macroeconomics and monetary economics along with the applied analytical tools of finance and econometrics.

School Requirements:


Economics majors must complete a minimum of 12 economics (ECO) credits, and 6 business (BUA) credits at the University of Maine. In addition, students must complete the following:

Students are required to work with their advisor to select 18 credit hours of Professional Electives.  Courses selected to fulfill this requirement must be approved by the faculty advisor and must benefit the student’s career or graduate school plans.
