Interdisciplinary Curricula: Religious Studies

Return to: Colleges and Programs
Traditionally, questions about the ultimate meaning of human existence have been
posed in the form of religion. Today we live in a world in which religion and
religious ideas are often in serious conflict; it is thus also important to understand
some of the problems connected to religion. Courses included in the religious
studies curriculum are designed to help students understand what these questions
are, what kind of answers people have found to them, and how societies have given
institutional form to the world-views which emerge from the answers. A student
who elects this curriculum should develop an awareness of the broad range of religious
phenomena and an ability to analyze and elucidate the significance of such phenomena.
