REM 227 - Backcountry Expedition Skills This course involves a multi-day expedition. Topics will vary depending on the season and scheduling requirements. Activity topics include, but are not limited to: backpacking, canoeing, and sea kayaking. Prior to the expedition, the course will focus on the planning and preparation process, minimal impact travel methods, physical training and the development of a solid risk management plan. During the expedition, students will keep a detailed journal including their challenges and peak experiences, their progress and the terrain, environmental stewardship, and leadership considerations for backcountry expeditions. Following the expedition, students will complete a self-assessment of their performance and a portfolio designed to be useful for future expeditions. May be repeated for credit as topics vary.
Prerequisites: REM 116 or permission of instructor
