ANT 216 - Introduction to Folklore

Folklore is the study of informal culture, past and present. From its initial focus on orally transmitted culture, it now examines folk ideas and forms as expressed through any medium: oral, print, recorded, and digital. Emphasis in the course is on the major genres found in Euro-American and Native American tradition, how folklore varies across time and space, and how specific items become embedded and reinterpreted in specific cultural contexts.
