Welcome to the University of Maine at Machias! We are a regional campus of the University of Maine located on Maine’s stunning Bold Coast.
Our faculty and staff are deeply committed to the student experience. Through projects in service learning, applied research, and community engagement, we offer every student one-on-one opportunities to learn in a way that works for them.
Our academic programs not only provide technical and theoretical knowledge, but they are also geared toward helping students move easily into career paths. Our alumni work in a range of industries, including the following:

We warmly welcome a diversity of learners and learning styles. Classes are offered in person and online. Some take place at our primary campus in Machias. Other classes are held at the Downeast Institute, our state-of-the-art field station dedicate to studying shellfish reproduction. Many of our courses incorporate trips, whether to local K-12 schools or to the mudflats and rocky tidal pools that surround us. UMM is a dynamic learning environment where student interests and hands-on learning lead the way.
