OVERVIEW OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum number of credits required to graduate: 120

Minimum Cumulative GPA required to graduate: 2.0

The Elementary Education major is inter-disciplinary and prepares students to understand young learners while teaching in single or multi-grade classrooms. Students complete the University Core Requirements ; program Liberal Arts requirements, the professional requirements; and a concentration in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, or Inclusive Early Childhood.

Requirements

  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators 
  • Praxis Elementary Education; Multiple Subjects passed by the start of the semester prior to intended student teaching
  • 6 credtis in Math, English and Language Arts, Science, Social Studies (from either the general core classes or electives) 

Curriculum Requirements

Content Area Requirements: 

Choose one of the following minors (the total number of credits from the General Education Core, Minor, and Elective should total a minimum of 24 credits).

  • EDU 311 - Assessments of the Young Child*
  • EDU 372 - Social Studies for the Young Child*
  • EDU 378 - Creativity in the Classroom: Arts-Integrated Curriculum*
  • Or other approved course in one of the following topics: family studies, advanced child development, early learning environments, or an additional early literacy course
