Associate of Arts - Liberal Studies


OVERVIEW OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum number of credits required to graduate: 60

Minimum Cumulative GPA required to graduate: 2.0


Students completing the Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies may complete optional concentrations in Allied Health, Marine Biology, Mental Health & Rehabilitation, Music,  Psychology or Visual Arts. 

To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 60 credits and achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.

Students completing the Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies can complete one of the following six optional concentrations:

  • Allied Health
  • Marine Biology
  • Mental Health & Rehabilitation
  • Music
  • Psychology
  • Visual Arts

General Requirements


Maine Coastal Odyssey - 11-13 credits


Communication Skills - 6 credits


Aesthetic Perspectives - 4 credits


Complete 4 credits (2 courses) with a Requirement Designation of “Aesthetic Perspectives” from at least two of the following areas:

  • Art
  • Dance
  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Interdisciplinary Fine Arts
  • Creative Writing

At least one credit must be taken in studio or performing arts.

Historical Perspectives - 6 credits


Global Perspectives - 3 credits


Scientific Inquiry - 4 credits


Mathematical Literacy - 3-8 credits


Complete any two MAT courses at or above the 100-level.  One of these courses may be MAT 102 Intermediate Algebra or its equivalent (see below).

Ways to establish equivalence to MAT 102:

  1. Score at least 530 on the new SAT math exam (MSS) or at least 21 on ACT math exam.
  2. Score 50 or better on CLEP College Mathematics or College Algebra exam taken after 7/1/2001 or 500 or better on same exam taken before that date.
  3. Place beyond Intermediate Algebra on Accuplacer placement exam.

Note:  Credit will not be awarded for choices 1 and 3 above.

Allied Health Concentration - 17-18 credits


Marine Biology concentration - 16 credits


Visual Arts Concentration - 19 credits
