Minor: Disability Studies

The interdisciplinary curriculum in Disability Studies provides students a means to explore disability within the larger context of diversity and to examine professional practice, scholarship and policy related to persons with disabilities.  Administered through the Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies, Maine’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD), students may enroll in individual courses, DIS 300, 400, 480 and 490 as electives, or in the Minor in Disability Studies. The Minor consists of 24 credits distributed among 3 core courses taught by faculty with expertise in disability studies, DIS 400, 450 and 470 and elective courses in three categories; social change, diversity studies and environmental context. For complete information about Disability Studies, please visit the Coordinator at 201 Corbett Hall, phone (207) 581-1263 or Prof. Stephen Gilson at stephengilson@umit.maine.edu.
