You’re here at a particularly transformational time. The Harold Alfond Foundation’s $240 million grant to the University of Maine System includes $90 million for Black Bear athletic facilities, $75 million for a statewide Maine College of Engineering, Computing and Information Science, $55 million for the Maine Graduate and Professional Center, and $20 million for student success and retention.
We’re dedicated to advancing the state and the planet with inspired teaching, meaningful research, and caring outreach. We strive to be engaged, thoughtful citizens. And throughout the pandemic, our researchers have met that goal. They’ve demonstrated ingenuity as they mobilized to help people, benefit the greater good and boost the economy in Maine.
For more than 150 years, UMaine has welcomed and championed trailblazers. Some conduct consequential research from the bottom of the oceans to the top of Mount Everest, and into space. Others design and build America’s infrastructure, write bestsellers, advance aquaculture and climate change adaptation, earn Olympic medals, develop potato varieties, win Tony Awards, and serve in the U.S. Senate.
